Pros: It feels good and cleanses your body of toxins that build up over time. It may help you improve your staying power during sex.
Cons: You can do it too much. It can hurt your staying power during sex if you do it improperly. It can make it difficult to ejaculate during sex because of reduced sensitivity. It uses lots of energy and nutrients. It is embarrassing to get caught in the act. You need lubrication to do it most of the time (not soap). It can be a mess.
So, do it in moderation! I think that between one and three times per week is a good rate. Good night!

I can only answer from a female's perspective and speculate about a male's.
Pros - Extremely safe, non-life-threatening and pleasurable! It provides an alternative to being unfaithful to your partner if you're not together and the desire for relief is acute.
Can be more fun when shared; someone present to huggle, snuggle, kiss and share the tingles.
Cons - Being alone ALL the time when you masturbate and feeling guilty when you really shouldn't. Also, hiding the fact that you masturbate from your partner. There's nothing shameful about it.
It is also better to masturbate than assault someone through sexual violence.

Pro's: It feels great. It's safe. Can't get any weird disease. And after I'm done, I can go to sleep!
Con's: If you do it because you are bored, it's not fun.

also it makes you harder in the long run because you're constantly working the blood vessels and the muscles that pump blood to your second-in-command.
