It's a pride thing.
Vegeta is angry because Goku a.k.a Kakarott, a lowly third class saiyan, beat him in becoming Super Saiyan. He feels that since he's the prince, he should've become Super Saiyan first and beat Frieza. After Goku became Super Saiyan he did all in his power to become one too. But the problem is that vegeta tries and tries to beat him, but Goku is always one step ahead of him.
And it's not that Goku and Vegeta don't get along. Goku likes to consider Vegeta as his friend, it's Vegeta who has the problem in getting along with him...sort of. He has a problem because Goku acts human, instead of acting like a Saiyan should.
And if you see all the episodes of DBZ, especially the movies, you get to see that Vegeta does consider Goku as his friend, eventhough he doesn't say it outright.

Vegeta is jealous of Goku's power because Vegeta, being the prince of all saiyans, should obviously be more powerful than Goku, who was just a lowly saiyan. In a way, Vegeta feels shame that he gets beaten by a "commoner" in the battles they have.

In the z episode vegeta is jelous of goku`s power and wants to be even stronger,thats why in the majin saga he turned evil again. But in gt if you didn`t notice they get along perfectly.Of course they don`t go to parties together or get drunk,but their relationship is way more mature.I think vegeta gave up,he could become very strong but never pass kakarot`s strength.

cuz no matter how strong vegeta get's, goku seems to be one or two steps ahead of him in strength which was how it all began with and after the buu saga they sort of had a relationship of respect but they still acted the same toward eachother but not as much!
