I think there were several reasons.
1. Weapons of Mas destruction. All of the intelligence reports that we had at that time, and every government in the world, believed that Saddam Hussein had them, and was developing them as fast as he could.
2. The fact the Saddam Hussein was willing to fund, and provide sanctuary to terrorists. (No, he wasn't part of 9/11. but he had several training camps in his country)
3. To get rid of Saddam Hussein, and set up a stable democratic elected government. (It is a fact that he was using chemical weapons on his Kurdish population. Interestingly, they are the most stable area of Iraq.)
What a lot of people fail to note, is were the instability is coming from, who doesn't want to see the US and Iraq to succeed in creating a stable government.
This someone is Iran. Iraq lies right off of there boarder. Iran and Iraq have been at war for years. What Iran wants to do, is set up a religious Theocracy, that is Shiite, and ruled by the Iatolas.
IMHO, I would really worry about another country being ruled by someone who doesn't believe in the Holocaust, and thinks the sun shines on what Hitler said and did.

I think the invasion of Iraq came out of meeting that George Bush had with the oil company's early in his presidency. Remember this was suppose to set energy policy. I think they knew that if they started a war in Iraq or any other place in the mid east that they would cause turmoil and when there is turmoil in the mid east the price of oil goes up. I really think that the president and many of his family have profited on the death of 2750 Americans, 20,000 wounded Americans and 10's of thousands of Iraq citizens. The oil company's have record profits from this. Much of the war machine needs to be fed and they are making record profits. Halburton, ect. all connected to this administration. So to say the war is about oil is to abrupt it is more about profit then just oil. Do not think that George Bush is a Christian, nor a moral person because in my opinion he isn't

That George Bush had plans to invade Afghanistan on his desk before 9/11 demonstrates only the value of being prepared.
The suggestion that securing a pipeline across Afghanistan figured into the White House’s calculations is as ludicrous as the assertion that oil played a part in determining war in Iraq.
That Afghanistan is once again the world’s principal heroin producer is an unfortunate reality, but to claim the CIA is still actively involved in the narcotics trade is to presume bad faith on the part of the agency.

This is just an opinion, therefore no proof. George W. bush wanted to take revenge on Sadam for trying to kill his daddy. They were making plans way before 9/11 happened. You notice though that not any of the bush family has decided to join the military and take part in this war. Just like George W. back in the sixties when he made sure he saw no combat in viet Nam. The yellow-bellied, chicken-sh*t coward!!!!!

- Oil Interests - France, Russia, and other countries were doing deals behind our backs in spite of sanctions. If sanctions were relaxed, US oil intersts would be screwed.
- To bring down Sadaam- Bush and other people wanted him gone
- Funnel tons of money to military-industrial complex
Official Reasons
- WMD's and Iraq was an imminent threat -- we didn't find any. And those he DID have, we gave him. Iraq was not a threat.
- To rid the world of a dicator - ok, that's our job too huh?
- To Spread Democracy - we are buddies with tons of dictatorships and monarchy's
- Terrorism - Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and minimal if any interaction with al Qaeda. They did not have training camps nor supported Al Qaeda. OBL hated Sadaam as Iraq was essentially a secular government.

After 9-11 Iraq began shooting at our pilots patrolling the no-fly zone, there was lots of activity, we were perceived vulnerable {because we were attacked} Iraq is a sworn enemy {1st gulf war},Iraq has wmd {didn't find it doesn't mean its not there} Iraq tried to assassinate Bush Sr.
also Iraq broke all those resolutions 15 or 16 I think. Saddam was confronted and given a choice. So he be the one that started this war {left this out , I was distracted}

I think it was fear. Then oil.
Bush just recently said it was to defend the credibility of the United Nations (erk!!).
I think the chickenhawks in the Capitol were scared spitless of Saddam's supposed WMDs, and ignored any advice to the contrary. The oilfields didn't hurt in the decision-making process.
