There is a good book, "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler. It really gets into details when it comes to cervical mucus, it has actual pictures of the different stages of the mucus, etc.

Go to http://www.mymonthlycycles.com and put in your period info and it will calculate when you will be fertile and ovulating.
(It is free and very helpful site)

Actually, ovulation usually occurs about 14 days before a woman's period begins — that's why it's so difficult to predict. It may occur on day 14 of a regular 28-day menstrual cycle (day one is the first day of bleeding), but most women do not have 28-day cycles. In fact, most young women have irregular cycles (each cycle may be of a different number of days), and women who have regular menstrual cycles may not always ovulate on the same day each month.

There are some women who believe they can tell when they are ovulating, based on a change in discharge or a slight pain in the back, which is called mittleschmerz. However, it is not advised to try to predict ovulation based only on these symptoms, because they can be caused by factors other than ovulation.

Some women chart their fertility patterns to predict when they will ovulate, in order to plan or prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy is most likely to occur from having unprotected vaginal intercourse during the six days leading up to and including ovulation. However, it takes a minimum of 6-12 months of training and record keeping with professional guidance before a couple can try to use the most common of these methods.

Hope this information helps!

Take care and good luck

Fertile Mucous is either watery and abundant or like raw egg whites. Creamy or sticky mucous is hostile to sperm and not considered fertile.
The only way for you to know if you are ovulating is to take your basal body temp each morn, same time and before you get up. You should see a pattern in temps that leads up to and after ovulation. You can get the basal thermometer at Wal-Mart for about 8 dollars. I use a wonderful FREE website called Fertilityfriend.com...it graphs your temps for you, keeps track of your fertility signs, tells you when you ovulate and also tells you if there is an implantation dip in your temps. You can also use Ovulation prediction kits, but they only measure your LH surge and give you a ball park time for ovulation...they do not pin point it. Oh, and it is possible to be ovulating while you do not have your period, just like it is possible to have a period and not ovulate.
