I actually believed in us going to war although that isn't under debate as we are in it now, whether we agreed or not. Before I would send our young men and women to war I would call up those that have experienced, possibly war, but definitely life. I am now 56 years old, but I served 16 years in the forces and I am still more than capable of firing a gun and defending a position. I like to think that even at my age I am a more thinking, more positive person than your average 18/19 year old. I've already almost outlived my usefulness in this life and would be happy to replace them.
Maybe if the Geneva Convention was rewritten and everyone over the age of 45 (including politicians) were called up our governments might view war differently.

War is necessary to win peace and justice. Peace and Justice have never been won at a diplomat's table. Iraq is part of the global war on terror, as is afghanistan. Besides which, a soldier is more likely to die in a military training excercise or driving to and from base in the states, than he is likely to die in combat in Iraq.

THE FACT is that the region has one less militant islamic government funding and harboring terrorists.

My son is going there in a couple weeks.
He joined the reserves for college money, and 9/11 happened his first week in boot camp. Now his unit is called up.

I think it's time to leave the Mid East. There has NEVER been peace there through history, and there never will be. Those people are insane, and I don't want my son to die for a war I can't support.
But he made a commitment to his country--all the soldiers did- and they honor it.
So shut up, and stop hurting soldiers' families with your ignorant blathering!!!

I think you sound like Tokyo Rose and that can be taken as a compliment if you know her story.

That's what the dumb voters want. It took well over 50,000 dead soldiers from Vietnam before enough was enough. We have a long way to go. War is a catastrophic failure of diplomacy and Americans loves failure. They are 3 billion dollars in debt right now so they will soon spend themselves right out of existence.

What about the hundreds of thousands of Kurds who were killed at the hands of Saddam. He gassed them in prisons and put them in camps just like Hitler did. So apparently Hitler should have been able to massacre the Jews and invade other countries without interference, using your perspective. Saddam had to go and the majority of the Iraqi people thank us for that. We have a volunteer Army that knows what they are fighting for so rather than blindly shooting out blame without any real insight on the subject, honor the soldiers by praying they will help successfully defend Iraq until it is on its own feet. The stability of the region depends on it.

fr_chuck deserves respect for his great and honorable answer. Thank you for supporting our men and women in uniform whoever you are.

Salutere`

Ayala, I would never want any of my loved ones to go to any war, but that is the decision they make when they join the military. I believe in God, I believe in my country (USA) and I don't always agree with the president, but I do believe he is doing what he believes to be the best for this country. I am praying for our soldiers in Iraq, our president and our country.

initially, i'm satisfied you made it again from Iraq and thanks for serving. for sure human beings care, even with the indisputable fact that the challenge is that some human beings will attack you in the solutions section or maybe out in the international to extra their own political agenda. those who've written adverse comments, blame the politicians that voted definite in this conflict and not in any respect the militia member who has positioned his or her existence on the line. Your anger is seriously inaccurate and should be used to protest in the political venue. take excitement on your freedom of speech, yet do not ignore why you've it and who makes sacrifices for you.

I'd happily let my son go to fight in Iraq, the same day that George sends his two daughters there.

First we don't let "go" we support them and love them while they fight and do thier duty for our nation.

None of them, not a single one did not know they were going to war when they inlisted or reinlisted, They are doing what they believe is thier honor and duty.

And if we love them, we will respect thier views and thier opinons of duty to our nation.

To do less would be disrespect for the purpose they are fighting for, and for our love ones who have choice to fight to free the Iraq people.
