I remember a TV news story that a car dealer traded a new car off the lot for a Tickle-Me Elmo. The prices came down after the Christmas season, and the supply caught up with the demand. I bought one several months later for my kid's birthday...at a discounted price.

I guess it's happening again with the new Elmo TMX...there seem to be a must-have toy every year.
