in order to solve this problem, you must begin with the distributive property. The 12 needs to be multiplied by the 5 and the 2y.....this will give you 60 + 24y = 4y - (6 - 9y)

Now simplyfy the right hand side of the equation by multiplying everything in the parentheses by -1.
This will give you 4y - -6 + 9y....now combine like terms...4y + 9y is 13y , ....you have -6 + 13y

60 + 24y = -6 + 13y...now solve for y by subtracting 13 y from each side...24y - 13y = 11y
60 + 11y = -6....subtract 60 from both sides -6 - 60 = -66....
11y = -66, so y = -6

you can check the answer by plugging this number into the original equation.

12(5+2y)=4y(6-9y)
60+24y=24y-36y^2 ( distributive property)
subtract 24y-36^y^2 from each side
36y^2+60=0
divide all terms by 12
3y^2+5=0

there are no real answers. Imaginary answers are
y=+/-sqrt(5/3)

12(5+2y)=4y-(6-9y)
60+24y=4y-6+9y
60+24y=13y-6
24y-13y=-6-60
11y=-66
y=(-66)/11
y=-6

proov
12(5+2y)=4y-(6-9y)
12(5+2(-6))=4(-6)-(6-9(-6))
12(5-12)=(-24)-(6+54)
12(-7)=(-24)-(60)
-84=-84
