Yes I took my sons for one of their Scout badges.I made arrangements in advance and was made very welcome.I was told of some of their beliefs and asked about my opinions.I was provided with a chair when I got cramp for sitting on the ground so long and offered refreshment.
The good points were their dedication, their preparedness to listen to my views and their tolerance of the fact I knew very little of their faith. That they had reverance for the Mosque and were working on it not using contractors.
The bad points were prayers were in Arabic and I was not sure they were fully understood by all the participants. The dedication was almost fanatical.None of the ladies stayed to converse after prayers.

Yes recently in Malaysia, it was a lovely experience, everybody was very friendly and informative, my partner and I found it fascinating. We could look in most places and were free to roam as we wished, although there were some places we could not enter, they were happy for us to look in and take pics.
Obviously it was shoes off for both of us and head wear for my partner. The architecture seemed to encourage a cool breeze and it was a very peaceful place to lay on the floor and muse in the heat of a tropical afternoon.
I would not believe the knives thing too much up above, maybe they made a faux pas of some kind. Malaysian people are generally rather nice and the country has a mixture of religions and they all seem to get along quite well. You will find Hindu Temples, Buddhist Temples, Mosques and Christian Churches side by side in many communities there.
We are all just people y`know. Go with peace in your heart and a friendly smile, good manners and reasonable respect and you will be welcomed in most places throughout our World.

Yes, back in 1995 when I was on an archeological dig outside of Amman, Jordan. We stayed in a Palistinian refugee camp in Macabalane, an area just outside of Amman. A group of us, about 5, all Christians of different denominations were walking down a street one night and past a mosque and decided to walk in and have a look. We had to take off our shoes,, but were greeted very warmly. A group of men invited us to sit down and they wanted to talk with us. It was very interesting and we stayed for about 3 hours talking about religion and politics. We would have stayed longer but the night was getting late and we all had to arise at 4:30 to go the our dig site the next morning. The men were very friendly and we all spoke freely without any sign from them that they were disturbed by what we said. It was enlighting in that I learned a lot about the Islamic faith that night and did not feel any hatred coming from the men of the mosque. There was also no fear on our part as we were put at ease by the graciousness and politeness of our host even though our thoughts were of opposing views many times. There was no arguing, just good discussion.

yes, I went into the Blue Mosque in Istanbul - as long as showed respect to Islam (head covering and ensuring my arms and legs weren't exposed) I was given a warm welcome and a tour of the mosque.
we were told about the way the prayers were conducted and what sort of classes and groups there were and we met some Muslim women who were really nice and friendly and we all ended up talking about shopping and movies etc.

Yes, I went to one in Toronto in 1994. Everyone was nice and they gave me a Koran. It was a short visit and I don't remember much, but remember cracking everyone up when we were discussing the meanings of our names and I said mine meant 'dark-skinned warrior', even though I was the palest person there.
