Hi, Josh,
One can "donate", to charities just to lower taxes, as some celebrities do.... A hardworking scientist can discover a new medicine and save many life's, but neglect his family at the same time.... So, are these situations selfish or not? ..It's difficult to define, it think it mainly depends on the intention... "Selfishness" is more a personal characteristic.. than a way to describe one single act of a person....
>>>>>>>
If someone is selfish by nature he/she will base all his/her decisions on his self-interest, instead of considering the interest of others.... ;//
>>>>>>>>
No one else can breathe for you.... No one else can think for you... No one else can live for you.... And you can't live for someone else.... In our society the individuals with ideas and a vision are looked upon as selfish and egotistical....
>>>>>>>>

Thanks, for the question!;)

My regards!

Never thought about it but it must be our survival instinct. It seems that it has been going on as far as recorded history, with nations always conquering nations and taking the "spoils of war".
When young and foolishly optimistic, I used to think that world peace was around the corner. Now I feel certain that it will never happen. Sure there are many peaceful, loving, fair minded people on this earth, but the majority make total peace and love an impossibility.
Maybe those of us who are further evolved are mutations, representing a coming peaceful race......there I go again dreaming.

it's in our nature to be selfish. We don't intend to be, except for the few/many who really want to be. We were born alone and we die alone. The only thing that we knew existed was ourselves before we had contact with other things in this world.

Well thats true, most humans are selfish. When they were a child they must of gotten a lot of toy and goodies, so when they get older, thy're use to it and want more and more. But, some don't get a lot and when they become older are a little more generous. (USUALLY)

Most are selfish, but not everyone. The selfish ones put themselves at the center of their universe. The unselfish ones put Christ on the throne of their lives.

AND the hypocrits, of which there are many, SAY that Christ is on the throne of their lives, YET put themselves at the center of their universe.

I think it's natural because everything in the world in every man or woman for themselves. nature is set up like that. there would an off- balance in the world if everything cared for everything else in the world. that's not the way we were meant to be

We are born with a sinful nature, that includes selfishness or being self-centered.

There a way to get rid of it...ask Jesus into your heart. When you focus on Him...you don't have time to focus on yourself.

Yep, it's nature. Mammals who feel pleasure have a better chance of passing on their genes. Don't beat yourself up, it's just a result of natural selection. Now if you educate yourself, it takes greater, more complex emotions to satisfy your serotonin levels like empathy, creative fulfillment, worship, etc...
