Aluminium foil, baking soda & water. Cover bottom of bowl/pan with alu foil and place silver onto foil in bowl/pan. Boil water and pour into bowl/pan. Add soda (1/4 cup per litre water). This will froth carry out in sink or bath and careful not to scold yourself. Tarnish should begin to disappear in a relatively short space of time depending on build up. Note that you could also just use an aluminium pan instead of the foil provided it is only kept for this purpose. Ensure that silver is fully covered by water/soda mixture. You may need to add more baking soda and/or reheat water.

Good luck.

Put it into a small bowl with about a tablespoon of baking Soda, add a capful of vinegar, wait for the bubbles to calm, then rub the necklace gently between your fingers with the paste that's left. After a couple minutes of this, rinse with clean warm water. Repeat until it's as shiny as you want it.

try toothpaste - rub some on a small area and polish it with a piece of paper towel - it should remove any tarnish. If it works OK then do the rest of the necklace!!

I second the use of toothpaste. You'd have to go out and buy the other stuff when toothpaste is readily available!

gently rub it on, let it sit for a while, then rinse it with water, scrubbing the toothpaste off gently.

As silly as it sounds you can use toothpaste to clean it up. try it, then just rinse it off. Also maybe getting a neckless cleaner. Some work really well. You can even buy cloths that make it shine like its brand new.

DON'T USE ANY OVER THE COUNTER JEWELRY CLEANER! IT CAN RUIN YOUR NACKLACE A DEPRICIATE THE VALUE!

What you need to do is get a cheap toothbrush and soapy water and scrub it spick and span and completly get all soap off once dried off.

WEar it daily, the oils from your body will polish it up and daily showers will wash away the tarnish.

you have several options. you can take it to a jewelry store and have it cleaned. you can buy jewelry cleaner and clean it yourself, or you can use an old toothbrush and toothpaste, it works. Jewelry stores usually clean your jewelry for free but I find toothpaste works just as well.
