This week on Veronica Mars, Dickie went up to Mac and said something like... My brother didn't really care about you. You were just his beard. I have NO idea what that means. Anybody have a clue? If it is a sexual inuendo, please don't be graphic.

Usually a beard is someone you use when you are gay as a gf/bf to cover the fact that you are homosexual.
Cassidy was so psycho that I think Dick was just trying to tell her that Cassidy used her as a cover for his psychotic personality so people would think he was normal.

2 options:
A.) she was his beard means she was his disguise (ie. fake beards etc.) so people wouldn't think something was unusual about him.
B.) he didn't see her as a girl - she was just a buddy, like any other guy would be to him.
That, and Dick's a dick - his name really works for him.
Love the show; I'm glad to see ppl aren't just VM fans for the little romances like in all the WB shows.
also worth watching - Gilmore Girls(it'sgetting funnier again this season) and Heroes(don't know, but it looks good so far)

It could mean that DIck thought his brother was gay and that Mac was used to cover up that fact. In gay slang, a beard is a female companion used to hide a gay man's sexuality by appearing in public as if she and the gay man were a heterosexual couple.

I think that he meant that mac was just beavs way of covering that he was really actually gay, kinda like a beard covers your face she was covering him in that way because he had a girlfriend. Remember that beav didnt want to have sex with mac at all maybe thats why because he was really gay after what happened when he was younger.

I think that Dick probably meant that Mac was just Beaver's way of feeling like and proving to his dad/Dick that he was a "man."
Dick was always picking on Beaver for supposedly being gay, and Dick was basically saying that Beaver had no real feelings for Mac, but was just trying to prove to everyone that they were wrong.

i didn't like that comment. it sounded stupid and didn't make sense. i have no idea what it meant. probably something sexual. whatever it meant sounded really mean. but, i love that show!!!
