Apparently there's been agreement to have products placed in soaps and other tv programmes over here in UK. Does it matter? Are we being subtly brainwashed or is it just a harmless way of increasing advertising revenue?

Edit : I don't think "It makes it more believable" is really a good enough argument. Pulp Fiction has lots of 'imaginary' brands made up by Tarantino, I don't think the film would have been any more or any less believable if real brands had been used instead. IMHO

I'm against it just like I'm against Kingsmill going into primary schools to give 'science' lessons to the kids on yeast , catering and of course the many nutritious variations of bread product they happen to supply.

The nasty little Kingsmill sandwich box my children received has convinced them that Kingsmill is the greatest thing since sliced bread was invented.

I beg to differ and I don't doubt for a minute that it ha some kind of genetically modified junk in it.

Product placement doesn't brainwash adults but it does have an effect but the advertisers have realised if they target children early enough their pester power has a better effect.

Product placement has been occurring for years. a enterprise that I used to do paintings for offered Eastenders with a sprint one show screen which replaced into utilized in many scenes. the enterprise replaced into better than happy to have the prospect for this 'subliminal' advertising. the version now's that the powers that be, are questioning of permitting this custom to ensue openly with money being made to the programme manufacturers as an incentive to comprise those products.

I don't like it, but for the most part, I tolerate it.

It gets annoying is when there's an obligatory long shot of a character holding can of soda...because the soda people paid for their product to be placed in the movie.

For......Or else you'd have all the TV/film characters drinking wierd brands that no-one had ever heard of. Would make programmes less realistic.

It helps finance the film but it could become risible. If Harrison Ford turns to the audience and recommends his whip maker, for example.
