Myth – Sex offenders have the highest recidivism rate (some quote 95%) and allowing them back into society is a mistake.
Fact – Again, according to the U.S. Dept. of Justice and other studies done since 1994, sex offenders commit another crime, of any kind, at an average rate of just thirteen percent, while those convicted of property theft reoffend (steal again) at an average of 75%. People convicted of drunk driving will reoffend at a rate of 51%, while a convicted murderer will reoffend at a rate of 41%. Ex-convicts with a non-sex offense charge are 87% more likely to commit a sex offense than a convicted sex offender in therapy is.

Check out www.usdoj/bjs.gov and you will see the statistics yourself. The media and the politicians are all fear mongers. Truth is that your children are more at risk being around your acquaintances and family than they are a registered sex offender living down the street. Contrary to what many believe, there are not dirty old men waiting behind every bush waiting to grab a child. It's sad that the American people don't do their own research and they listen to everything they hear. We are not a nation of freedom any longer.

I'm not sure that is the right figure, although it's pretty close. I believe it's more about 5-7%. What I do know is that sex offenders (and that includes a broad spectrum from very heinous crimes to nonviolent acts between consenting adults or between two teenagers) are less likely to commit another crime than every other category of criminals, except for murderers.

Actualy I believe that your numbers are wrong based on the number of unreported sex offences that take place each year. Howerver I do believe that the number is quite low due to the new sex offender registery. It gives people in a neighborhood mor of a heads up an forces them to do a better job in keeping themselves and thier kids safe.

Yes this is true because most of them don't get treatment in jail and are allowed to get away with doing that then we have to deal with the idiots when they get out and worry when they will reoffend, i am glad we are informed where they have moved to so we can try and bug them enough to get the heck out of our area...

That sounds awfully thin to me.
Most other crimes is closer to 50%.
Now are we talking VIOLENT sex offenders or 18 year old guys who bedded 13 year old girls.
