its a lifter or valve. if it goes away after a second or two, use an oil filter with an anti drainback valve. depending on what car you have, it might just need a valve adjustment. otherwise your looking at a top end rebuild if its really bad. its ok to pour a small amount (pint or less) of auto trans fluid into your oil which acts like a cleaner and might free up a stuck lifter. If its very brief its not an issue but if it realy bothers you use lucas oil stabilizer which makes oil sticky so even when you first start it you have oil in the top end. hope this helps

Sounds to me like you have a car with some miles on it. I would definitely make sure yu keep the oil changed and possibly look at getting the lifters adjusted. If the noise does't bother you and you keep oil in it you might be OK.

From my limited knowledge, it's just the lifters being a little loud while the car is cold. They go away after a while of running? Probably isn't something to worry about.

Tapping noise cant be a good thing. Check your oil! If not look at all your belt driven components to see if anything is loose or broken.

check your oil first. with low oil the valves will tap. what car is it? how many miles? when did this start? the answer to each of those can have a different outcome. dead valve, bad lifter.... and so on... but .... stat with the oil... it is dark change it, if it low, fill it up

it is more than likely a lifter tapping when it pumps up it stops and the reason when the air is cut on you cant hear it. is because it drowns out the noise.

Could be your drive belt spray some belt dresser on it! Or it could be the ac condenser does not have enough lubrication!
