Never ban books. There is no pros in banning books. Books give us knowledge of our past and future. It educated us from generation to generation. Books is like our history. It should be perserved.

I can think of no pros for banning ANYTHING; the cons are that those doing the banning begin putting their agenda into the lives of everyone else, these same people are usually the most closed minded and narrow of all on the earth and many probally have some form of mental illness if the truth be known. If I had to and was really pressed i would say the only pro there would be is that if heating oil gets too expensive this winter these lunatics could stay warm from all the books they're burning!

There are no "pros" to banning books. The minute you tell people what they can and cannot read, you are taking away their free will and their ability to think on their own.
There may be many controversial books out there but who is high enough to decide what I can and cannot read?
Banning books is a way to suppress the people. If we start doing that, we are following in the footsteps of Hitler. First it's books. This one isn't allowed. Then it's people. They aren't like the rest of us so we're going to get rid of them too. It's a bit of a stretch I know but as history has already proved, it's not an impossible stretch.

The only possible "pro" I could even think of for banning books would be reverse psychology. There was this kid I babysat for who never read a book of his own free will. Ever. He acted like he was being tortured any time I tried to turn off the TV. Then he saw a thing on the news about people trying to get the Harry Potter books banned. He asked his mom about it when she came home, and she "absolutely forbid" him to read it.
The next week, he was halfway through The Sorcerer's Stone.
Even so, there's a HUGE difference between actual book-banning and parents using reverse psychology to trick their kids ino reading. Censorship is a terrible thing.

It only takes half the time to teach half of anything. That is all I can think of as a pro to book banning. I do think reading should be age appropriate. I purchased an antique book yesterday that was the nastiest bigoted racist sexist thing I have ever seen. The text was full of ignorance and assumtions of european superiority. The pictures of local people worldwide from about 1850 to 1910 were beautiful and I look on the text as a marker on how far we have come. We need things like this as a mental "before" picture to give us hope that we will come even farther in the future.

Pros:
People will be able to save a large amount of money because they do not need to print any more books.
Cons:
Books are an essential to life. Banning books would make people become illiterate and we'd be much more stupider. It will make things much harder for teachers because teachers use books to teach kids. Kids read books for entertainment, learning, philosophy, and everything. I think there should only be a few kinds of books that should be banned. For example, the books that are just pointless and the picture books that are inappropriate... like.. adult... stuff.

Books of anykind should NEVER be banned.
Censorship sucks big time.
If people are so paranoid what they might consider doing is having a few shelves labeled "BANNED BOOKS" or something to that effect and those books with a sticker on them labeled as such and put there but NOT removed entirely from a store. Anyone over 18 should be allowed to view these books .

I think its crazy. I saw a list of the top 25 banned books and books like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Roots, The Color Purple and Of Mice and Men were on this list.
That's crazy
It seems like everyone is trying to make everything perfect. Looks like its working well.
How many school shootings were there 20 years ago.
Let the kids read, use their minds and imagination.

i think banning books is bad.
people have a right to write and read whatever they want.
and most of the books that i know are banned, are really good books.
look at this list:
http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/category/Books/
if people don't agree with the book or they think it's offensive then don't read it!
some books may be controversial, but they don't encourage drugs, racism, violence, etc. they just have that in the content.
