Put a wet baby face cloth in the freezer. When it is really cold give it to your baby to munch on. The cold and biting will help alot and it is easy to hold. Also, natural.

We used Orajel on our son, but only sparingly, and mostly when he was having a hard time going to bed.
Most stores carrying infant items will have teething rings. They're rings filled with a gel that's a little bit thicker than water, and can be frozen. We would freeze the ring, then give it to our son to chew on.
However, one important discovery we made is that while he'd chew the ring, he didn't like holding it while it was frozen. One of his teething rings came with a stuffed animal, a crab, with a pouch that you could tuck half the ring into, so he could hold onto the ring through the crab, and not freeze his fingers off.
Teething is a very stressful time for all concerned, but stay the course and try not to lose your head. Like anything with raising a little one, this is another development phase that will eventually run it's course.

Hyland's Teething Tablets are THE BEST teething remedy out there. Far better than Orajel. They just dissolve in their mouth so there is no worry about choking. Walmart and many other stores carry them and health food stores usually have them.
Put a metal spoon in the freezer and give that to him to chew on.
Give him a stalk of cold, hard celery. Great for reaching anywhere in the mouth.
Put an ice cube or a "boob cube" in a Baby Safe Feeder.
Tie an ice cube up inside a baby sock.
Wet and freeze a washrag.

Wet the corner of a face cloth and then freeze it so your baby can hold on to the dry part and chew on the frozen part. Also Hylands teething tabs are great and Tylenol if it gets really bad. I was also told by my sons Dr not to use orajel because it numbs more than just the area that the tooth is coming in. It makes it more uncomfortable for them to eat.

My 4 months old daughter is teething and I've been asking around as well. I found these great pacifiers by Nuby, Hannah LOVES them! Frozen stuff is fun for her for a few mins and then it's too cold. Everyone mentioned the tablets, which I'm getting tonight. Many said no to orajel, doesn't help at all. My doc's said frozen wash cloth and tylenol when she's truly uncomfortable. AND they told me it'll probably be a couple of months before her first tooth actually cuts!! OMG! So I'm totally feeling you right now. Best of luck and here's to keeping our sanity!

JERKY is the secret that saved my sanity! And our poor little girl a lot of pain. We bought her plain flavored (like turkey) and really tough jerky. She would just gnaw and gnaw on that stuff. The chewing really helped ease the pain, break the teeth in faster, and entertain her. Only downside is, the mushy blob that is left over, but its SOOO worth it. Plus, its a good way to get her to have some protein. Its worth a shot, and jerky is so tough that you dont really have to worry about your baby choking on it. Baby should always be supervised anyway, but of all the things we tried, she loved jerky the best. Cold things were only good for a little while, then it was just TOO much cold. Oragel wears off really fast. And things like cold carrots and such are bland. Hope this helps! Enjoy your sweet baby, and just know that you guys will make it thru.

I have a couple ideas for you. Try teething tablets there near the orajel in the store they dissolve in the mouth. Then you could always try, take a damp wash cloth put it in the freezer for about five min. then just let the baby naw on it.
Mom who's been there

Freeze a plain bagel for 1-2 hours or til frozen sol lid keep an eye on the infant closely but this will help sooth the pain and is effective. Or buy a plastic ridged pretzel in the infant section of Wal-Mart,Target Etc. freeze it let the baby teeth on it works well

A thick-gel-filled teether that you can keep cold in the fridge .
If they can sit in a high-chair , hold a popsicle to their gums and let them suck on it -while you hold it . The cold popsicle will numb some of the pain , and taste good at the same time . Never let a baby have a popsicle alone , as the stick will choke them . If they have a fever with teething , you may be able to use a little children's liquid tylenol .

Orajel actually makes it more difficult for the teeth to come through, hence making teething last much longer than needed.
We always used Hyland's Teething Tabs. They are homeopathic and work like a charm!
Good Luck, teething is tough.
