My DSL modem has a USB port. Can I hook up my printer to my network through this? It is not the rectangular kind of USB port though. It is a bigger, trapazoidal port like you would see on the printer itself. Do they sell USB cords that have this connection on either side? Will this work?

It depends on if your DSL router has a print server in it. If it does, then all you need is the cable. If not, then you need a print server.

Connect as follows:
USB cable from DSL router to print server, USB cable from print server to printer.

No, you need to connect your printer to a computer on the network and then make it available for access by the network. It is refered to as making a 'share'. You go into your control panel and then to printer and faxes. On the left is an area with an option to share this printer on the network. Click on that and follow the connection wizard and then you will have it accessable as a share on your network. Or you can right click the printer icon and then select Properties and then go to the sharing tab and select the radial button "share this printer" then either accept the name of the share or type one in yourself. Then when you go to use the printer on a computer not directly connected to the printer you click on the button "find printer" and then follow the instructions. Put the share name in the proper box and the share name will be like this Computer\Computer name\printer name. Then click Find and it should put it in the list of available printers to choose from for print jobs.

You do not need a print server to put it as a share on your network. You can use a print server if you want to spend the money, but it is NOT required to share your printer on your network. These folks are making something simple and easy sound too hard and difficult.

DO NOT PUT THE CABLE IN THE DSL PLUG!!!! YOU WILL CAUSE HORRID DAMAGE TO THE COMPUTER AND PRINTER AND DSL MODEM!!!

No.

Get yourself a print server that plugs into your hub/router.
