It is a good idea to warn your kids about internet safety, but does it really make a difference in what they do online? They could be careful not to mention what city or state they live in, leave out what school they go to and then post a picture of themselves wearing their high school sweatshirt.

Maybe a better question would be, why is it any less important for our children to learn internet safety than to learn drug safety? People do get killed because they give the wrong information to the wrong people. I'm not sugguesting that we not talk to our own kids, buts lets face it, they are a whole new generation, and most of them know way more about computures then their parents do. Maybe parents these days should have to take internet classes.

Not unless the class is specifically about how to use the internet.

Besides, if the school was smart they would filter out any websites that would allow posting of said items, etc. with a filter like Bluecoat.

Outside of the school is the parents business. Freedom of speech is allowed via parent or guardians authority. Now if parents would just do the right thing.

It sounds like a good idea, but does anyone listen to health class? that is kind of the same idea.

I have had people come into my school and tell me about internet saftey, for example in a town meeting. If a town meeting can cover it (A town meeting can cover the basics you mentioned plus a few more) then a whole class is overkill

No. It's the parent's responsibility to teach their children about internet safety and to monitor their children's computer time. The schools have enough to deal with.

that is a great idea. get rid of math and get somone else to teach responsibility to your children. you know this can be taken care of at home unless u are too busy selling crack on a street corner somewhere.
