Ow my goodness girl, YES smoking can cause a miscarriage, but even more important, think of your poor baby trying to take a breath and how much trouble he will be having. Besides drinking and drugs this is one of the worst things you can do... Do your best to quit.... good luck!!

Smoking is not linked to any problems other than a little lower birth rate! Im not saying its a good idea to smoke but it shouldnt hurt anything. People forget what it was like just 15 years ago even when smoking was allowed anywhere and everywhere and before that everyone smoked while they were pregnant if they were smokers and apparently all those babies born were fine. There is absolutly no evidence to show there was a higher miscarrage rate back then. When my mom was having all of us she smoked and so did all her friends and everyone she ever knew. People forget that stuff though.

Could you have a miscarriage if you consume too much caffeine? Yes...
Point is too much of anything could cause a miscarriage. Too much exercise, too much alcohol, to much blah blah blah.
Don't stress out that you are a smoker and pregnant. I myself am pregnant and a smoker, and I cut way back as well when I found out I was pregnant. I'm at 34 weeks, and have had no problems...and something they don't tell you, most studies that say 'You could kill your baby if you smoke...' Don't tell you that their research was based on women who generally smoke over 10 cigs a day.
Make sure that you tell your doctor too. (It was hard for me to tell my doc, but it's really important.) Once you get further along to take childbirth classes, you will get information to inform yourself on the effects of nicotine and such.
Just relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Don't let others make you feel like a bad mother already!

I quit cold turkey when I got pregnant, both times. My kids are more important than that. I don't know about a miscarriage but my nephew was born premature and had serious damage to his lungs. He has asthma now that he is older. I can say this much, if you are willing to risk killing or hurting your child, or have the ability to watch something so tiny be hooked up to machines because they can't breathe among other things, then keep doing what your doing.

My sister in law did the same thing. The baby is healthy but how ever you should quit. I could cause child diabetes in the child. I know its tough but 1-2 a day could end up being back up to a pack.

yes, you could have a miscarriage if you smoke, also you could get to full term but have a child with low weight and/or malformations. Better if you give it up, it's just 9 months, then you'll do it again. I personally stopped when I found out I was pg, no way I'm gonna risk my baby's life , and I don't plan on doing it again, I don't wanna be a bad example for my baby girl. Finally, remember than whatever you breath your baby breaths, so you are just poisoning her/his oxygen.

There's always a small chance. It's really good that you cut down. Women that smoke have a higher chance of pregnancy complications, miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, still borns; and the baby has a higher chance of dying of SIDS than a non smoking mother. I learned all of this in my human development class. Here's a good site:

Good luck and congratulations!

Try really hard to quit!!! It is really bad for the baby! Trust me, my mom works in the newborn intensive care unit, and I'm studying to do the same. You could at least do some damage to the baby. We've seen it before. The baby could have problems breathing. Also, when the baby is born it's still not good for it to be around second-hand smoke. It's in your baby's best interest to quit. Good luck.

It is possible and it is also possible that your child might have a birth defect because smoking is very damaging to a women that is pregnant. If you want a healthy baby I suggest that you stop smoking in general...
