Use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page to look them up - most of them will be there.
They all come from mythology and ancient history.
Don't put the whole phrase in - use the name...."Ariadne" or "Augean" will be enough to get you to a topic that will help you understand where the phrases came from.
Then re-post any you are really having trouble with. Most should be fairly easy to find. Good luck!
