of my 2000 Honda Accord with 97,000 miles. Noise is more noticeable when I put on the brakes or turn, but also occurs afterward even when not engaging the brakes. I took it into a brake shop and they said definitely NOT the brakes, but couldn't identify the problem. Do you have any ideas of what else it could be?

I would take it to a different shop for evaluation. Typically, there are only two things that would cause such a noise. The brakes and the wheel bearings. That is if the suspension has not been altered to accept larger tires and wheels. Anyway, a reputable shop should be able to diagnose the problem fairly quickly!

Wheel bearings may have collapsed, it does sound like a brake problem though. Have you tried jacking it up and spinning the wheel, or rocking the wheel, top to bottom? If it rocks, it may well be the bearing.

Sounds like a stone in the brakes discs.Drive forwards a short distance and then reverse back. Repeat this again and this should clear it.

check your centre wheel bearing, that is probablly the cause...........if the car is a front wheel drive, then it could be the drive shaft, there is an easy way to test for that, park on a quiet road or street, spin the wheels and if you get a banging noise then it is the drive shaft, if you hear no noise, then it is the wheel bearing.

It sounds like front wheel bearings have gone bad.

If its not the brakes or the rotors, I have no idea! I might get a second opinion.

could be the bearings... check the cv joints also... Hondas are notorious for both going bad around 100,000 miles

I still believe that your brake pads are not properly adjusted.
