A currupted DVD Drive? It is probably cheaper for you to get a new DVD drive than have someone to come out and troubleshoot the drive. He might end up telling you to replace the drive.
It might not work because of dust. See if you could use this

to blow out the dust. If you still insist on having someone coming over then he might charge you anywhere from 40-60 an hour. Might also want to take it to BestBuy. They have technicians there that might able to help you out at a price.

From looking at prices for repairs versus go get a new one on sale I say give up on the repair. A fancy DCD/CD drive with high speed and dual layers goes for about $39 on sale at Staples. I don't think you can get anyone to show up at your house and do any work on your computer for less than that.

Call Dell. If its not under warantee, get someone you know to fix it. Its really simple and you shouldn't spend money getting some "technician" to fix it for you. By the way, chances are, you will have to replace the drive. But, its cheap now-a-days.

Sounds like you either indeed have a bad drive or (most likely) need to clean the drive. Just buy a cleaner disc and try that first.

Dell will do it for free if it is still under warranty. And for really cheap and gove you a new warranty, at least for the drive, if you call them.

Probably cheaper to go buy a new one and install it yourself. Very easy to do.
