Yes, it's very rude not to respond to a cheery, "good morning", or "may I help you?" But I'm assuming you work in a shopping mall, and the crowds are too busy and too preoccupied to remember their manners. Also, they could be afraid that you might try to sell them something, so they would rather not even acknowledge your presence.

Don't worry about it, dear. There are lots of clods in the world, and they don't deserve politeness if they can't show it in return. Just keep your good humor and lovely smile, because there are still some folks that have good manners and make use of them.

Yesterday, I was at the mall and walking (quickly) to Macy's (I was in a hurry and had something to get). this guy working at a skin care kiosk came up to me and said "Can I ask you a question?" and I said "no" quickly and didn't stop, but kept going. I felt rude but what did he expect? However, if I was looking at his stuff and he asked me of course I would respond and be polite.

When I worked in retail this was a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Now I realize that some of those people simply couldn't hear me, but others were just rude! I used to do this: Hello, how are you? No answer.... so I'd say a little louder, "Okay, let me try that again: HELLO HOW ARE YOU?". THat worked every time!! Good luck, working with the public is no picnic!

Hi there.

The reason they don't respond or avoid the kiosk all together is because they do not want to buy what you are selling. Simple as that.

Customers that are truly interested will come to you. :)

Don't take it personally. It's not you.

Yep, I have seen that done before. Your there being pretty much their servant if needed and they can look while talking to the person with them w/o even acknowledging your even there. I really try to always be friendly to the person attempting to help me. sorry the public sucks.
