I recently bought a chainsaw which I have just started (vroom, vroom!). Unfortunately it says on the side, "do not attempt to stop chain with hands". Help - can anyone tell me how I can stop the chain? Can I use my teeth?

There is a black guard to the front of the top handle, knock it forward and the chain brake will stop the chain. Pull ith back till it clicks and you can carry on cutting. If there is no guard or it doesnt work throw it away. You should check the chain brake on a regular basis to ensure it works correctly. The first method is to get the saw up to full revs and knock the brake on, it should stop instantly, if not then the brake is either brocken or badly worn and needs replaced. Another way is to get full revs and let go of the top handle letting the end of the bar (bit the chain runs round)hit a soft material ie; a tree stump,, this should activate the brake. Modern chainsaw brakes are inertia brakes and this force causes the brake to work when the saw is dropped or encounters kickback. Kickback is a bad thing, this happens when the top quarter of the bar at the tip hits an object and the speed of the chain causes the saw to recoil back towards the user. Again the brake stops this when the wrist hits the chain brake. Dont use the drop method unless you are confident with the saw. I would suggest you get some sort of training before you use this tool as it will cause serious damage.

ha ha I doubt you can stop it with your teeth but if you really want to stop the chain just hit the brake in front of the handle it kills the motor and stops the chain. Or if it gets tough and you have to stop it with a body part try a leg it probably the largest and mor likely to stop it as long as you let off the gas.

You need to use your legs or arms. Thats why chainsaws only have a 4-use lifespan.

I've used a saw for 20 years, if you've got any real question just ask - happy to help

Only use your teeth if they are the same as the character out of some James Bond films. Jaws (Richard Kiel)
He had metal teeth that he used at times for cutting other materials.

Otherwise do it the boring way like we all do and turn it off the way the manufacturer states in the instructions. ;-}

Seeming you have one hand at the end of each arm try two fingers at a time?
Just switch it off with the remaining thumbs if you fail exasperantly!!!

Read the instructions that must have come with it THOROUGHLY before attempting to use it if you are unfamiliar with using chainsaws.

Oh come on this is a joke right? Of course you don't stop it with your hands or your teeth. It will stop on its own if you switch it off.

I think you should remove your question with your chain saw and call it a day.

I hear that the human rectum has chainsaw-stopping glands. Try that.
