During the 1972 American League Championship Series, is it true that an Oakland Athletics player threw his bat at a Detroit Tiger pitcher after he got hit with the bat? If this is true, who was the player that threw his bat?

Naming the Pitcher is optional but I just need the Oakland Athletics Player Name.

The game was played in Oakland on Sunday October 8 (just like this year Oct. 8 is on Sunday), in the A's half of the 7th (bottom 7th) Lerrin LaGrow hit Bert Campaneris in the ankle and Campaneris throw the bat at LaGrow. This occured 2 innings after the A's scored 4 runs and during that inning Fred Scherman throw 2 pitches that missed Reggie Jackson, but knocked him down. Both LaGrow and Campaneris were thrown out.

It was Bert Campaneris. The pitcher was Lerrin LeGrow. He was suspended for the rest of the playoffs and reinstated for the WS.

I remember that one - it was Bert Campaneris (sp?), but I forgot who was the pitcher.

smitty is correct about the pitcher...it was LaGrow in the 7th inning of Game 2.

If you were a REAL Tiger fan, you would "know" that.

But, to answer your question, It was Bert Campernis. He threw at Lerrin LaGrow, and it WAS ON PURPOSE!
