some consider pluto and charon to be a binary system, but two small bodies orbit this system. they are called nix and hydra.

pluto does orbit the sun, is ball-shaped, does not have an isolated orbit (a bunch of other similar bodies have similar orbits.), and is not a satellite so it is not a planet. i don't know how long this will drag on tho. many planetary astronomers are not satisfied that the definition is rigorous enuf. i can accept that the definition is flawed, but i can not accept that pluto is a planet.

i have been waiting for this since i was about twelve. i feel somewhat satisfied. i knew that pluto didn't fit the pattern set by the major bodies in the solar system so it was an anomaly. it just felt "out of place". now that astronomers have found hundreds of other bodies with similar orbits, classifying "134340 pluto" as a planet is even more irrational. this was the right thing to do, believe me.

incidental, "134340 pluto" was never a moon of neptune. neptune did capture triton. this is why triton has a retrograde orbit. triton is spiraling in toward neptune and will break into pieces when it gets close enuf. neptune will then have a more extensive ring system than saturn.

A planet has some physical properties that are different from other moving objects in the space. Pluto has only one property of those three propertires/characterstics of the planets. the three characterstics of planets are:
1.) it should rotate on a fixed axis, in a fixed time period and in a relevent manner.
2.) it should clear its surroundings, i.e. it should not have other space objects arround it.
3.) A planet should have a hard, rigid surface.

Pluto has one one property i.e. it has a fixed axis and orbit but has not cleared its surroundings, it has many other small objects surrounding in its neighbour. Pluto also does not have a rigid body, it has a smooth cloudy surface.
so by study it has shown that it has only one characterstic of three so it should be called half planet or a Planetoid.

Pluto is now termed a "dwarf planet" The most convincing reason I believe is that the center of mass of the Pluto and Charon system is in between both planets.

Hi. Pluto was always considered to be an oddball. As we find more and more oddballs we would have an ever increasing number of bodies we would have to call planets. They made a new classification to cover these oddballs called a dwarf planet, and poor Pluto was grouped in this class.

When you look at pluto, you can tell its not a planet. It is way too small, almost as small as our moon. The orbit is crooked--it goes diagonally instead of horizontally, and it is just so close to the Kupiter belt that it might as well be part of it . Pluto also appears to orbit its own moon... I forget what this is called. Pluto is probably just a big comet

well the reason that pluto is not considered a planet is because pluto is just like a comet but alot bigger ist made of solid ice with gas around and inside. when you think of pluto look at dry ice..

pluto isn't a planet anymore because it never was.it is just either a piece of another planet or a block of ice.

confident, a "dwarf" planet. it rather is in basic terms a million/6 the mass of our Moon. it rather is an extremely thrilling subject remember for a undertaking. it is not a planet in case you're writing sturdy papers describing medical journey that are easy to "genuine" planets. yet, in case you're doing a undertaking, you're able to do a paragraph explaining why it rather is spoke of as a "dwarf planet". Then in basic terms proceed to call it a planet (with out having to apply the interest dwarf every time) whenever you could. somewhat the comparable way as in case you're conversing of a toy motor vehicle (as antagonistic to a "genuine" motor vehicle). you initiate by explaining that the motor vehicle is a toy. then you definately can in basic terms consult with it as "the motor vehicle" with out having to remind the reader every time that it rather is a toy. of direction, in case you get to a paragraph the place it rather is taken under consideration necessary rigidity the fact that it rather is a toy, then you definately can say something like "the motor vehicle, being a toy, ...". Pluto is various issues: a dwarf planet, a minor planet, a Plutoid, a Trans-Neptunian merchandise, a planetoid (in spite of showing signs and indicators of additionally being a comet), and extra.

Too small, orbit wanders inside the orbits of other planets, mostly composed of water ice; is considered a large comet.
