This is not meant to be a jokey question. I was just wondering and hope someone can come up with a serious answer.

i don't know exactly what wet dream means here. i dont know if you're refering to sperm release while sleeping, or real dreams, like a brain activity during sleep that causes virtual experience. i don't have pets, and i never had any, so i don't know if it's true about dogs, and what that would mean if true.
some animals breed in specific seasons. their hormones are kept in certain levels during part of the year and change in other parts, and then the hormones stimulate libido and gametes production. others breed during all year (like humans) and so are always ready for sex. if sex is done for breeding or for fun, that's not so clear.
some animals are known to have sex for other reasons than just breeding. bonobos (apes, similar to chimpanzees) have a highly organized society totally ruled by sex. the females are the most important, the males are subjects to females, and sex is a tool for achieving power in the hierarchy. masturbation is common, homosexual activities are part of good-neighbour policy, specially female-female (a young female will approach and offer herself to an older one in order to get her protection and go up in the hierarchy). and they sure sound like having fun, i guess they come a lot more than the average human.
i've seen animals masturbating as a reaction to stress too. small monkeys in captivity would masturbate with their hands or stroke themselves at the cage bars. they'd do it without stimuli, but they'd also do it by the sight of a human female who'd entered the room (in that case, it could also be a reaction to feromones that the monkeys recognized and humans don't).
i think you can find data about bonobos easily in internet, but i can't give you a source about the monkeys in cages, that's something i've seen, not read about, sorry.

Agree with answer 1 above.
My dog has sexy dreams & it's usual that they dream after the deed's been done.
An irate Jack Russell throwing the covers all around the bed & the snarling we got trying 2 encourage him 2 " put it away "!
he was there in his wet dream.
and that thing still gives me nightmares!

I know it's probably well-known by now
Monkeys & Apes, have a " any port in a storm " sort of arrangement 4 the good of the Group.
Guess a frustrated Monkey is best avoided.

Animals are not obsessed with sex like human beings are so the answer is no, they do not. A human in most developed nations has survival and food nearly guaranteed from birth so without survival, self-preservation, or food to constantly be thinking about reproduction moves to the forefront.

I remember seeing a program about a species of chimpanzee.. i think it is a recently discovered type... but it was said that it was the only creature (other than humans), to masturbate, or to show homosexual or simulated sex. I'm sorry I can't tell you more, maybe someone else can expand ...

No, they just get really horny then fly from siberia to australia or swim from antartica to the cook islands for a bit of loving. A lot of animals "switch off" until spring.

They dont have to masturbate because they have the ability to lick themselves. And no they dont have wet dreams. Animals have sex to procreate. They go into Heat by seasons. If it was not for that they would not have sex. They are not like humans who have sex thru lust. So no wet dreams for them.

What is your evidence that most animals don't masturbate: Monkeys, apes, dogs, and horses do it - but not necessarily with their hands.

Lady, you just can't walk these days for all the sperm.

maybe butterflies don't. I don't know.
