I know that you draw the Lewis Dot Structure... but the electrons don't seem to fit right! What am I doing wrong?

DrHenry, thank you. But I don't understand... what is the answer you're proposing?

1. The Xe has eight (four pairs) to begin with.

2. The O will use its six and one of Xe's pair to fill its eight. Now Xe still has four pairs and O four pairs.

3. Now each F needs one to fill its eight. You split one pair on Xe and give one each to the two F's so they have eight. Now the F's have eight, the O has eight, but the Xe now has five pairs and does not obey the octet rule.

Five pairs is ok in a molcule such as this. IT starts to involve other orbitals, but your text should(?) cover this situation.
