i've said this all along (meaning i have said that they are no different, but you will get people here that will point out the differences), now see which side is gonna bash the other side and that will give you an idea
UM... not hard to figure out. Watch WHICH party is gonna talk **** about the OTHER party... and that will show you who is willing to work together or not. all it is is a back and forth YOU LIED, YOU SUCK, YOU'RE NO GOOD game.

the problem is someone like you, who state you are independent, needs to be able to step back and look at the facts... decide which party is making real statements and not just bashing each other because they hate them

NOOOOOOOOOOO you read that WRONG. i'm saying the problem is that people like you DONT take a step back. i meant a lot of people dont, im sorry you took that wrong, but i meant i wish more people would do that, not specifically you.
geez

It does seem as though the Republicans and the Democrats have abandoned the American people. In the end, however, I think we have no one to blame but ourselves for that problem. For decades we have argued moral issues like abortion at the federal level, when in fact moral issues are states issues. As a result, moderate politicians have failed to be elected to congress. People have made their political decisions based on abortion or gay rights and ended up electing a congress split with liberals and conservatives.
Liberals and conservatives are opposite poles which can never agree nor ever resolve anything. It had always in the past been the moderate politicians that guided the country. Without them we have no direction, only discontent.

Both the republicans and the democrats are messed up. The problem is that they are the two most powerful parties. For an independant to get elected it takes a miracle. We could move to Canada or Mexico, but that wouldn't really fix anything would it?

I think there are millions of Americans who would agree with you, however, the problem is finding an answer to the question: Do what? The average American has no idea how to "come together as one and try to fix this nation...". What do you do? Get out and vote is one typical response, but as the last election showed, sometimes your best voting choice is still a bad choice. Americans have grown apathetic, too busy working at one of the three jobs they have to have to make ends meet, or too busy sitting on their ever enlarging behinds watching their favorite "reality" TV show. We may all complain but the reality is Americans are just to "used to" and "comfortable with" our current situation to really do anything. Are we going to march on Washington? No! Not enough of us to matter anyway. Things are going to have to get much much worse before Americans are shaken out of their apathy.

I'm glad that you realize the dems are messed up, but you have to get your info on the republicans from someplace other than the mainstream media....The proof is in the little things that have actually been done. Think about that word "done", democrats haven't done anything when they were in control for 8 years. In the last few years we've addressed almost every major issue - agree with it or not - at least something is being "done" and not just talked about.

that's great....while I philosophically side with the Democrats MUCH more than the Republicans....I agree that the leadership on both sides is completely messed up.

I would love to see the rise of independent parties - but - guess what? PEOPLE have to actually vote their conscience & not worry about a "wasted vote".

The Dems & Reps want you to believe that a vote for anyone other than them is a waste - because THEY want to stay in power.

As long as we have this concept of "wasted vote" - the Reps. & the Dems. are going to be the primary parties in the U.S.

Very good point. We need to unite and get out there and become interested in politics again. They can't control the game if we rewrite the rules.
Come on all of you left- and right-wing nuts, even a guy with poor grammar realizes how bad off this country is under the current structure.

It appears they bash each other in public so that they can do NO work for the people. All they seem to do is party, collect money for their next election, cash their paycheck all the while voting themselves raises. This does keep the masses distracted.

rules, by using their very nature, generalize a collection of persons. they're no longer Charlie or Bob in the eyes of the regulation, they're "black". Or, "hispanic", or in spite of. they have lost their individuality. To then supply preferential scientific care to a sort of communities in step with no longer something yet their minority prestige is, by using definition, racist. the means of the guy is marginalized jointly as their minority prestige will become a qualifying ingredient of who they're. maximum liberal rules on the subject of race are of this way. They declare that somebody can not gain success on his or her own advantages, yet somewhat their inclusion in a minority group makes them deserving of preferential scientific care. Conservatives, meanwhile, are particularly colour blind. this isn't any longer the colour of the floor that concerns, this is the means to do the activity. it is sickening that we've not moved previous this. yet "progressives" basically can not seem to head on.

I think you tapped into the poisoned vein of American politics, where party affiliation supercedes national affiliation.

We are AMERICANS first, before our ethnic roots, our political allegiances, or peer pressures, we should uphold the Constitution and demand a government of/by/for the people. We are satisfied, often, with info-tainment, and are too lazy, disinterested or fatigued to engage in open debate, without name calling, without prejudice, without pre-conditions.

We don't love America by hating Americans. We don't love America by conducting subversive and divisive campaigns against our citizens, simply to forward a political football across an imaginary goal line.

Candidate selection, primary and final election voting and federal and state level legislative debate MUST include the public. PACs should not, ever, be allowed to donate $ to a campaign fund, but rather serve as another representative voice of the people. Congressional campaign funding laws MUST be significantly altered to favor NO ONE, but enable EVERY ONE who is willing to run for office and able to generate enough support to be a viable candidate. Congressional rules also must be challenged, especially those that inhibit open debate on bills, amendments and nominations.

It is not for the left or right to move center, it is for the center to grow on its own and outlast and outshine the fringes.

This nation has to support the level-headed, hard-working, tax-paying, honest and patriotic center. And only them. Fringe elements do not serve the entire nation, but their own special interests, and so though they may commandeer the television newscasts and bumper stickers, they don't amount to a hill of beans for the guy or gal looking to feed their children, and keep up w/ rent and utilities. There has to be hope and opportunity for everyone. The gay marriage, global warming, abortion rights, illegals' rights, universal healthcare, senate/page romance, Schiavo, NCLB handwringing is not sufficient or efficient focus of our government. There is some merit in assessing each of these issues, but not as much merit as righting our economic ship, reducing excessive taxation that does not support jobs and national security, encouraging investment that is reliable and transparent, and defending our nation from domestic and global saboteurs. We shouldn't fall into the Lewinsky Trap again with Rep. Foley's follies. We have a job to do as AMERICANS, and it has little to do with TV pundits and far-fetched accusational salvoes or voting in or voting out legislators for simple change's sake. NOT ENOUGH.

The link below shows what America can do when it is focused. FOCUSED. Not on Aruban murder mysteries or the latest Hilton or Lohan escapade, but on American values, ambitions and vision. VISION. That is what the average American lacks, and that lack of vision is slowly turning into a festering mob-think where the slightest move away from the mainstream conventional wisdom of the day gets your head propped up on a public relations guillotine by judges, juries & executioners you'll never meet or know. VISION is what the average American lacks. VISION is what is going to form and shape our nation, our kids and our future. When our VISION is focused at about 10 paces in front of us, we don't see the train a-coming. We need leadership from bottom and top, to elevate our sights, to raise our standards and to uplift our expectations of ourselves and our country. The days of idle self-ingratiating behavior must soon come to a close, or be closed for us artificially. AMERICA MUST STAND, today, together, for what is right for all of us, not some of us, or we shall all fall, terribly, uncontrollably, finally.
