Before you go to get it scanned , check 1 thing first. It makes alot of check engine lights come on. Check that your gas cap is on tight. If it is, take it off and wipe around the threads and put it back on, so that it clicks several times. If this doesn't help, you'll need to go to a garage and get them to hook it up to a scanner and see what codes show up.
Also, make sure that it's your 'check engine' light and not 'service engine' light. The service engine light is just a service reminder, not a light to tell you that something is wrong. People get these 2 mixed up.

it comes on because of the fact some thing is incorrect with the engine. (hence, the "verify engine gentle") why are you dropping time at here, the place no person can see your vehicle, somewhat of going to autozone or someplace to get it checked?

go to auto zone or o'reilley's and they can hook up this machine (its free ) and tell you why your check engine light came on. Then you'll know what you need to do, it may be something as simple as you need an oil change or it could be something else, best bet is to have them hook it up and find out for you.

you should take it into a shop and have them check the engine, and make sure that everything is running right.
