My guess would be tendonitis swelling from typing for so long. Would not be able to say carpal tunnel syndrome as his typing was out of the ordinary and likely would not have been sore if hadn't typed so abnormally long. Carpal tunnel would be guessed if he typed everyday for long periods then began to get sore wrists. Likely with ice on wrists and rest the problem will resolve for him.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common cause of wrist pain. You may feel aching, burning, numbness, or tingling in your palm, wrist, thumb, or fingers. The thumb muscle can become weak, making it difficult to grasp things. Pain may extend up to your elbow.

Anyone that types for eight hours continuously will be sore. He might have carpal tunnel and just discovered it. More likely he just overworked his wrists and hands. Go see a doctor if the pain persists.

His wrists are just sore. He should'nt lift anything heavy for a couple of days his muscles need to relax. There should'nt be anything seriusly wrong with that. I've experienced a similar situation. Tell him to turn his wrists around gently so his wrists could flex a little. Yeah, he has R.S.I.

He has R.S.I. (repetitive strain injury). He needs rest, less typing and a better keyboard.
