I have been to Barcelona 3 times in the last year and found the people relatively friendly. Only problem is that the rest of Spain do not think the same as they even speak a different language, I have friends living in Spain and they would prefer to live in Madrid. They are more friendly towards people who speak Spanish. The city itself is beautiful.

According to my experience, they are very friendly. Barcelona is a great place, both because of her beauty itself and because of her people. I haven't been in Madrid yet, but I guess this city is also very nice, so I believe you will have a great time wherever you choose to go. But remember that Barcelona is at the coast and Madrid is not. So, if you like the sea, you know where to go!
