come out of the dryer they end up with lintballs on them. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing that's making it come out like that? It's not the softner I'm using or anything like that.

I think it is just from general wear and tear. You might have the heat set too high on the dryer .. use a fabric softner sheet as well . in the dryer. I hope that helps. :) Good Luck!

that's what short cotton fibers do, when you buy towels you want to get combed cotton, price doesn't always equal best, here's a link, from a fabric store get some nylon netting, like what tutu's are made of, put that in the dryer with towels, that ought to help,
fabric softener can make your hair look greasy when you use that towel to dry your hair

It sounds like the type of towels you have. Try a dryer sheet and see if that helps and next time buy a different type of towel.

This is normal for towels, especially for the very fluffy soft ones. I have very soft towels and they still produce lots of lint after 4 months. Make sure your lint catcher is clean because it sounds like it is not catching all the lint and it is ending up on your towels. You should clean it after every cycle because it could cause a fire.

New towels shed for several washes, in the dryer and on your skin when you dry off. It goes away.

the color has nothing to do with the lint balls. those balls come from the cotton your towels are made of.
