Vendor is an outside company or person you purchase items from for your use. A vendor in no way represents your company.

Subcontractor is a person or company you hire to perform work on your behalf as a representative of your company. Your firm can potentially be held liable for the activities of a subcontractor.

A vendor is traditonally a seller of a property or business whilst a sub-contractor is someone who works on a large project but is not the main contractor. if you want to build a football stadium, you go to a large well-known builder and they will run the whole project, using sub-contractors known as subbies) to do all the little jobs. It works like a pyramid, with various levels of subbie, subbing part of their work out to other, smaller subbies. You think you are gettiing a well-known builder to build your stadium but most of the gritty work is done by the little guys you see every day in their white vans.
