Silverado - Lawrence Kasdan (Scott Glenn, Kevin Kline, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Linda Hunt, Brian Dennehy, Rosanna Arquette).
Honorable mentions to:
The Magnificent Seven (or 7 Samurai, depending on who you talk to), The Outlaw Josey Wales, Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid, Little Big Man and Lonesome Dove.

I pick Shane, not only it was the finest western ever made, it broke barriers, the setting can be changed, the story that lifted this movie and the acting of Alan Alda, Van Heflin and the Oscar should be given to him, Jack Palance he stoled the movie, he was awesome, a real villain. I't influenced Clint Eastwood to make do, "High Plains Drifter" about a loner coming to town and changing the good of the land.

I love the Sergio Leone films. The characters aren't uni-dimensional, the action, settings and costumes are gritty and very naturalistic the cinematography is brilliant: The camera angles, framing and edition say sometimes more than the dialog and of them all my favorite is 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly'.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, directed by Sam Peckinpah. The Wild Bunch is a close second, and the Left Handed Gun is also very good.
