I mean like in the 1920's to 1950's and stuff.

diffrence cultures have had diffrent ways of dealing with it. Mostly, they didn't "deal" with it. The woman was basically banished until she stopped bleeding. Then there were sanitary belts, you wore them like underwear except you tied a piece of cloth to the front and the back, basically like a primitive pad, then along came pads that you attached the same way, and eventually the made them adhesive.

My grandmother told me all about this. She said women used to have rags that they would use during that time of the month, and they'd just wash them. This was back in the 1920's. She did say that there was one time she had to use a newspaper (in her panties) because she didn't have a rag with her. Just like cloth diapers, women used cloth rags.

My mom is not that old she was born in the 1960's but she was born in a ranch im Mexico, Anyway, So around the time I stared my period she would tell me, that back then she would have to use a piece of a cloth... When she would filld that one up she had to wash it and use a dry one.... eeewww that must have been so nasty... Well thats my guess...

The reason why they call it being "on the rag" is because they used to wear this strappy beltlike thing with clasps to hold the rag in place (which you would wash and reuse EEEWW!)

i know like waaaaaaaaayyyy back in the day...like 1800's the husbands would put them in a lil shed and they were banned to leave until it was over
