A man who had nothing to do with the Amish (he was homeschooled, and never attended that school) basically lost it one day and went to the school seemingly prepared for a stand off. He had many items with him that would suggest that he thought he was going to be there for a long time.
He was actually only there for less than an hour. He let most of the people who were in the school leave, including all adults, boys and infants. There were ten girls left in there with him. He shot all of the girls, killing three of them immediately. The other 7 were taken to are hospitals, two more of them have since died.
After shooting the girls, he fatally shot himself.
The Amish had begun to hold funerals for their dead.

So far 6 have died, 1 has been taken off life support and will likely die soon, the remaining 3 are critical but may survive. The murderer was mentally ill and simply chose the Amish school house because it was convenient. It had nothing to do with the Amish religion.

A man with access to weapons wanted to make an extreme statement, so he hurt the closest targets that had little chance of defending themselves.
I lived in Lancaster for a while and I know that the Amish are more affiliated with the local community than people really expect them to be, so maybe this man had a problem with the Amish specifically because of personal experience. It's been suggested that he had a (nonspecific) "20-year grudge" -- but obviously a man who kills kids never has a legitimate excuse.

once you've faith, the answer might want to be, because God has a plan - i understand a crappy answer. i don't like it... and that i do no longer see how the deaths of harmless little ones play into his fingers. possibly it develop into to teach us as a those who we favor to look after others no longer in simple terms ourselves. possibly it develop into to teach us that we favor to love our youthful little ones and loved ones extra - because we would want to not in any respect understand even as they're lengthy gone. i visit ask god a similar question about my uncle, my grandma, Meghan... all of them - why did they deserve what they were given? Why did they ought to die.... I keep in mind the day that I lost God... i develop into seven and it develop into the day that my dad's older brother died - I watched the tears roll down his face, and that i watched my relations disintegrate... I swore to my mom i'd not in any respect love God again - and that i didnt till i develop into seventeen years previous. not in any respect lose faith, even once you imagine that the plan isnt what it might want to be. keep those undesirable little females and their households on your prayers - no count number what type they could properly be.

from what I read,
A man who attended that school as a child was picked on by the girls,
he went back there ( as an adult many years later)
and shot all the girls, and let the boys go.
then killed himself
