Because he radically expanded the pallette of sounds the electric guitar was able to make, and changed the way that music was written, performed & recorded. There literally was nothing like him before him, and nobody since who hasn't been influenced by him.

Jimi Hendrix in the Woodstock Movie, of which you may be speaking, is the one part that still is able to make me cry. In my opinion, he was the best guitarist of his day, and one sexy hunk into the bargain. He had flair, but it was softened by a basically very gentle nature. As to how he got so good so young, it's just plain talent. Some have it, some don't. Mother Nature does that.

People like him because he's good...and by "good" I mean better than anyone else, dead or alive. The Star Spangled Banner is #1 on the Top Twenty Greatest Guitar Solos Of All Times. He was so good at 27 because he had talent and loved what he did.

He was an innovator. He did things that noone else had even thought of. As far as a technical guitarist he was average. But his ideas about how to charge the air with a guitar were unheard of.

Hes a good guitar player and he flowed soul through his fingers, but I find his sound terribly unappealing, particularly his voice.
Alot of his guitar is boring to me and a little overdone but you gotta respect the guy for what hes done.
I like the song Pali-Gap alot, and the more mainstream "Hey Joe".

Nice haircut by the way!

He had huge hands which allowed him to reach around and play with his thumb while using the other fingers naturally. Other than that, I couldn't tell you how he did it. Just a genius.

For the time period he was amazing with his music. Don't forget that was a 'balls out' drug induced scenario then and because he died so young, his style has been immortalized.
