It seems that there is a weather term for every extreme type of weather ( example. severe snow= blizzard), but I've never heard of any weather caster saying something other than severe rain for severe rain. Is there another word?

The only other word/ phrase I can think of is torrential rain. Anything else results in a weather condition, but is usually powered by winds such as monsoon, hurricane, etc.

Interesting question though.

Monsoon. It's a term for an extremely rainy condition occurring mostly in countries with tropical climates (e.g. India) where it rains heavily for days/weeks on end.
