I think this was merely a trick question from your friend... 2+2 ordinarily equals 4, but in a case of 2 having extremely high values, 2+2 can possibly equal 5. I'd suggest you try to practice studying math a little more. ^_^;;

If you really want to get technical, the problem would be
|2+2|=|4|

the absolute value of 2+2 is 4
but no one ever says that,
its just 2+2 is 4....

2 + 2 = 2 + 2

Let me explain. THe basic principal is the fact you are adding 2 "things" to another 2 "things" which may not be the same "thing" altogether, so 2 "things" plus 2 "things" equals 2 of one "things" and 2 of another "thing". It's also the basic algebra principle.

For example: add 2 bananas to 2 oranges, and what to you get? 2 bananas and 2 oranges...

But if you want to get existencial on such matters, then I will remain as simplified as possible: How do you know what your eyes perceive as 2 + 2 REALLY is 2 plus 2? Maybe those "2's" are nothing, and nothing + nothing equals nothing...

OK enough mind stuff!

Cheers

that right 2+2 does'nt equel 4 because you assume for example, that you're in a set of numbers {0' , 1', 2'} where 0'={0,3,-3,6,-6,9,-9...}
and 1'={1,-1,4,-4,7,-7,...}
2'={2,-2,5,-5,8,-8,...}

Define the sum and the product, by choosing a representant of each set, sum or multiplie them, and then the result is the set of which the result belongs.

Then happens, (0')*(0')=(0')*(1')=(0')*(2')= 0'
(1')*(1')= 1'
(1')*(2')=2'
(1')*(3')=3'

and (for example) the WEIRD things:
(0')+(0')=(2')+(2')=0'
(2')*(2')=1'

Here 2+2 = 0 ! ( this only works in integers)
