Great question.
All the TV shows...EXTRA, etc. are annoying. I would rather learn about the real world, not hear about some overpaid twit just because they can act or sing.
Think about the millions of dollars wasted on printing the garbage papers and magazines (People, etc.) that do exactly this.
Personally, I'd rather actually USE my mind...not lull it to sleep.

Celebrities are a superficial fixation society has because so many members of society are superficial themselves. They like the gossip, glamor and glitter because it gives them a feeling (there's a certian word for it but I don't know what it is, where you get joy through other people's lives) that they somehow are part of the popularity of the celebrity through the popular culture they worship.

confident, on the instant's society is in basic terms too captivated with celebrities and it rather is notably pathetic in case you question me. Why would you p.c. to lookup to somebody who does not income this international or conjures up a guy or woman to extra beneficial their existence. Celebrities have a adverse result on our way of existence giving the effect that funds and materialism is a thank you to stay your existence. besides, there are people who have not any existence and concentration plenty on celebrity gossip that they have excluded fact and have not any theory what residing is all approximately.

well there are alot of loosers out ther. Thier life feels so empty, so they try to know what is going on in hollywood to fill a void they feel in thier lives. I mean all these ppl do is act infrnt of a camera or sing, the are no better than our neighbors.

It's only because their lives are so easy to follow with all the publicity...and people are nosey and have fun with the knowledge of other people's lives. It takes focus off their own problems I think. Plus...celebrities are beautful people usually. They are fun to look at! Eye candy!

I would guess that it's because people are not as close-knit as they used to be. Years ago, people gossiped about members of their family, friends or co-workers more than they do now. Today, they talk about Paris Hilton.

We have a fascination with them b/c we kind of live our lives through them, we know that we will never be one and so we choose someone that is likeable and live through them

Just because they seem bigger than life and we watch their movies, TV shows & listen to their music.
It's just a higher-form of being nosy.
