Birmingham, to be precise...How come no one gives her the credit for rising above it, and calls her an Aunt jemima? SHe ain't nobody's tom, believe me...........Mr. Johnson thinks she's a great role model, and the black man disowns her for some reason.
Mr. Johnson can't understand why, when we finally get someone in high office, they call her a "tom"?
She ain't no Tom, fellahs!

Science, thank you....I try to inject a little humor as well, but that's where a lot of the truth lies.....comedians are, and always have been, our greatest philosophers....
you can probably learn as much from leno's and conana's monologues about the daily news than Katie Couric, if not more so.....you could find out more about the black condition from redd foxx, richard pryor, and dick gregory than you'll ever get from any gov't think tank or pretentious
round table discussion.....
actually, I'm a college professor, and use
the Mr. Johnson character just to put across truths as a stand-up comedian would, but that bite into the soul of consciousness.......this way reality can sink in more..........
and we are so far beyond the "white guilt"
stage it isn't funny. We have our own people in high offices and running corporations as CEO's....any fault at this point is on the individual..anyone who says less is copping out on the govertment dime, my friend!!!!

I forgot about Powell, who ran the military AND the state separtment, in what was essentially a CEO role for both of the major
bodies of government......some folks evidentally wouldn't be happy unless we had someone up there peaking 'Ghettoese"
and chuckin' and jivin' on the podium.
Sorry, but at that level of power, people
speak the queens english and act quite
proper. They wouldn't have got to that level without it.
AND, if the hard-line blacks are looking
for a militant-type, hard-to-get-along-with
person, sorry, but the Farrakahn types
would never get to that level either, cause
their whole MO is to rail against the
power structure, not be a part of it.
Black folk in positions of power are NOT
toms and jemimas......far from it....they
are hard-working, courageous folk who have reached the top after a lifetime
of effort. To knock them, after they have reached the top, for not being "BLACK"
enough is an collective insult to the American people

I think Condi Rice is an extremely intelligent and talented woman. Being that I am trying to live side by side with all humans, I look at her not as a woman of color, but as a successful person trying to make the world a better place. Skin color seems to be more important to some people even though it shouldn't be. I agree with my kid, different color skin is just like wearing a different color t-shirt than me. I wish people would stop separating the races all the time, and then maybe we could all get along.

Beiing an outsider to the issue, I think it very strange that most black political thinkers define "being black" by passing a certain litmus test on the issues.

Give Bush his due on one this: He has appointed blacks to the two most powerful positions in his government, Secretary of State and National Security Adviser, positions that carry substantial influence. And plenty of Republicans think she should run for President in 08. If she reaches the Oval Office, will people still be calling her "Tom"? I'd certainly hope not.

I've never heard her called a "Tom." Good for her for rising above. Good for anyone who works hard and makes a good life for themselves.

She is so great, that is why she was shopping for shoes when people in N.O. were suffering from Katrina. She is no Coretta. She is far removed from the black community.

i like your questions. you seem to care about your people and realize that they need to try and do for themselves now. hatred is over. No slavery, no reparations. A little help to get them going but no free rides throughout life.
