At least four weeks. Although the scar will be fairly well healed, the muscle layers and the gallbladder bed need to heal completely underneath. If you do anything that puts strain on the abdomen (heavy lifting, pushing a vacuum cleaner, moving furniture etc) you run the risk of developing an incisional hernia. This is where part of the intestine pushes through the muscle wall which has been weakened through surgery. Driving is risky because you have to be safe to do an emergency stop, which puts pressure on your abdomen.

Friend..
Gall Bladder might have stone n got inflamed.. Nowadays Laproscopic(keyhole) surgeries R used for Gall Bladder removal even thogh it is enlarged... It depends upn the severity of the case, that the patient is discharged.. If there's not at all complication, the Patient can go home in 2 days & can drive in 3-4 days.. But all up to patient's health...
Regards..

Up to which method. If they make a 12 to 14 inch incision like in the good old days you usually convalesc in hospital for a month before you can come home. then you can drive.
If they do it the modern way, keyhole surgery and if there are no complications, you are usually home within a week and can drive then.
I guess by 'open surgery' you mean the long one.

Ask the doctor that did the surgery. Most doctors have told me to wait at least two weeks before I could drive after my surgeries

At least 2 weeks. That's what it was when I had mine out. And believe me, if they cut you open you won't be able to drive for that long. You don't realized how badly you need you stomach muscles until they are sore as hell.
