what makes them different is that drinking (in moderation) and smoking do not alter you mind, while illegal drugs (and even some legal ones) do.
no, making something illegal just makes it more desirable. The results of the prohibition were that more people than ever drank in America and they were willing to pay much more for a drink.
People have the right to choose what they want to do (as long as they don't harm others), and if that will kill them, fine. It's their choice not yours or the government's.

No...smoking is bad, but drinking isn't horrible as long as you use it responsibly. And even if they did become illegalized people would still find ways to get them, just like how people find ways to get any other drugs that are illegal, such as marijuana. As long as you are smart enough to resist the pressure and not do them yourself, then you don't need to worry about what everyone else is doing with them- its their own fault what they are doing to themselves.

Nope, they already tried making alcohol illegal, and it failed miserably, and caused a huge amount of crime. Banning smoking or alcohol in this day and age would be a waste of time and cause more problems. Which is why they just need to legalize marijuana, it would sure save a lot of time and money for law enforcement.

At some point in time, people need to be in charge of themselves. I certainly see your point, but the government with it's laws can't be responsible for our every move. I think it's gone too far as is. Should people who smoke or drink be dropped from insurance policies... that's a different question.

No they should make fast food illegal. Fast food kills more people then smoking or drinking.

Because if you made cigarettes and alcohol illegal, you would probably have a giant riot on your hands.
