Lately, I have heard liberals state that Congressman Foley making excuses for his behavior doesn't cut it and that he needs to take some personal responsibility. I couldn't agree more, but I have one problem.
In the 90's, during the Clinton years the liberal culture rejected personal responsibility. If a gang member murdered someone we always heard that we should go easy on them because they had a rough childhood. Every time any two bit criminal got injured in a shootout with a Cop, liberals blamed the police. Liberal judges started to determine that if a burglar injured himself while breaking into a house they could sue the homeowner. Even Clinton blamed Ken Star for his problems.
Don't get me wrong, I feel that we need to throw the book at ANY child predators, whether Democrat, Republican or independent. I'm also pleased to hear that liberals are embracing personal responsibility, I just hope that they continue to do so even when it doesn't involve a republican congressman

Steve J, Chredon and froggie- You are right. In politics there is alot of blaming going on from all directions, even from Republicans.
However, when liberals are in power, they seem to have a special knack for spreading this victimization (everybody's a victim) virus to the whole culture.
That being said, when Foley tried to use this "I was abused as a child" line, I can't help but think back to the liberal Clinton 90's, where excuses like that were popular. If I had a penny for every time I heard the "It's because I had a rough childhood" excuse in the liberal Clinton 90's I would be a millionaire.

Lieberman might be.
But the rest of the dems do not know the meaning of the phrase personal responsibility.
They do know the meaning of taking control of the USA, and they will do anything to accomplish that agenda.
These are the base of their beliefs and have been for over 40 years.

Politicians in general do not embrace personal responsibility. Republicans always blame the Democrats, the Mainstream Media, or the Leftist PACs for their problems. Even Dennis Hastert said, in the wake of the Foley issue, that it was an attack by the media. And though he knew about it months ago and did nothing, that's not his fault. Nobody in Washington takes responsibility for anything unless they think it will get them votes.

The only reason they accepted personal responsibility in the case of Congressman Foley is because elections are right around the corner, and any Republican they can take down they will. It is not a matter of real ethics or a change in Liberals.

Pointing to a minimum of one occasion, i.e. Ethanol is a vulnerable case to assert the two GOP's and Dems (liberals) the two proportion the assumption in own accountability. Libs, universal have faith government would desire to be extra influential in people lives. as a rely of certainty liberals frequently attack republicans for no longer being concerned as much as they do for detrimental persons, minorities, and so on. in spite of the shown fact that this could be a bogus declare they escape with it because of the fact the GOP many times would not help each and all the social courses Dems recommend, that's why people % out the republicans because of the fact the social gathering of "own accountability". Obama and Hillary are 2 great examples who's systems incorporate taking from the wealthy to furnish to the detrimental. it is not what you may call own accountability.

One thing you'll never get from liberals is principled consistency. A liberal will assert whatever opinion, whether about circumstances or about values, that he thinks will take him closer to his political goals. They're similar to communists in that sense; they will identify as "truth" whatever they find expedient at the moment. Consistency is not a factor to be considered.

Pedophilia is not a "liberal" or "conservative" issue. It's a matter of right and wrong. Politics doesn't enter into it, unless some idiot attempts to use it to muddy the waters.

I think you have missed the point. This is not a liberal conservative issue. This is a politician issue, none of them take personal responsibility unless they can see a benefit for them or a way to hurt their opponent

maybe if you guys realized that not everyone who has a criticism of Bush , is a liberal, you wouldn't be so confused...us libertarians think that none of this should be a point of debate in the government...that isn't what we pay them for. However, the hypocrisy is a great source of humor.
