Purpose usually means useful to us. Since dark matter does not occur on Earth it has no particular purpose for us.
It does hold galaxies together with its' gravity. Without it the universe would be a different place.

Scientists believe that for every action there is a reaction. Dark matter is the opposite of matter itself. It is the negative. Nothing has been proven yet, and it is just a theory. But I think that's where people also believe that there is a parallel universe, and that it is made of nothing but dark matter and energy; possibly "dark energy"

Dark matter is all matter that is not directly observable. We have been unable to observe it so therefore we do not know what it's purpose is.

Did you really mean "purpose"?
The evidence for dark matter is primarily its gravitational effects. That's the "reason" the concept was theorized in the first place.

It keeps cosmologists in the grant money and keeps astrophysicists' assistants busy at their chalkboards, calculating and recalculating nature of existence.
Basically, they made the concept up to explain why they can't explain why there seems to be more gravity in the Universe then there is measureable matter to generate all of that gravity...
they're all WAY too smart and highly educated to admit they just don't know (and no one else really gives a damn anyway!)

You put dark matter into dark suckers so that you can get rid of the dark in a room and be able to see.

I don't think anyone can answer this quetsion since nobody knows what dark matter is.
Can you tell me the purpose of anti matter? Does anybody know what that is?

It's that thing you trip on when you try to make your way into the bathroom in the middle of the night. Damn you dark matter, why won't you show yourself....
What are we talking about?

Hello,
It is like asking why we exist. Anyway, if we find what is the dark matter we'll know everything. Till now it;s the missing part of energy.

We don't know since we don't know what the dark matter is.
