Why would you want your child to have such a burden placed on them for? Regardless of your relationship with the other parent the child has the right to love both of you. I don't believe that a child can choose between one or the other parent without being hurt in the process. The best thing to do is come up with a fair shared parenting plan that allows the kids to love each of you. If you can't deal with the other parent then try to find a parent coordinator to structure a plan that suits the families needs.

Where I live it is 10 to 12 but they have to go through a series of evaluations from a family mediator who will be able to advise judge and child services that they understand and are able to make that decision. It's a big decision to lay on a child either way because in the end they will feel guilty for having chosen one parent over the other.

I believe they need to be 11 or 12. But I think it depends on the state. Go to the child rights department of your states web site and I'm sure it'll tell you.

I think its around 11 or 12 but it all depends how mature he acts and what he does that proves him mature enough to make that decision... I mean if he doesn't want to live with his other parent then he should have the right to say so.IT also depends how well he understands this situation.. gOOD LUCK
