Okay, I have been DYING to get a pet tarantula. But I don't know what kind to get, what kind/size of cage, and what they eat, and such. SOMEONE Please fill me in on all that and the average price of upkeep and stuff?

Check out the following site for care information and many good tips about what to do and NOT do for your tarantula.

Second site has lists of the different types so you can choose which one you'd like to get, along with care sheets for them, also.

Good luck -- cute critters!

Easy pets to own, not much upkeep at all.

The "rosies" are the most common and make very easy pets.
Basically just get a small hamster type cage, and a little water bowl
Potting soil is the best to keep for a ground in the cage.
You should also put a couple objects in there for it to hide under and feel more comfortable. They eat crickets, but they are very cheap and you dont even need to buy them that often.
Just keep the cage clean (you'll need to clean up the web on the ground every once in awhile) water in the bowl, and crickets around.

There are several good websites dealing with keeping tarantulas as pets. Just Google the word and you'll find them. Most pet shops out West carry tarantulas, many around $25. I have handled them before, and they're very docile. Have fun!

Never had one as a pet. When I was stationed at NAS Miramar, they were running around the base. We would pick one up and just keep in the work shop. Eventually they get tired of us and walk away.
