Unless it's stipulated in the student handbook they should not be able to take the phone away and charge $15 to get it back....if it's not in the student handbook then they have no right to do that. Could be a violation of personal rights and possession. In this day and age with all these nuts shooting in schools I think they should be able to have there phone as long as it's turned off. Both my kids take there phones to school.

I don't think they can legally charge you 15 bucks to get it back but they can take it away from you. You could be texting messages from other students with answers to tests. If I was a teacher all cell phones would be left at the door. You don't need them in class.

Because when you are a student and enter school property, you check your Constitutional rights at the door. Personally I think that's terrible. I also disagree with random searches. The people who say this is needed for security reasons totally ignore the fact that in the two most recent school shooting, the shooters were not students and were in fact way older than student age.

What is the school's policy on cell phones? If it is stated in the policy that cell phones will be confiscated, then the person owning the cell phone was forewarned.

Maybe you should have left the phone in your locker. There is no reason to have it in class or between classes. They apparently can get away with. I've seen many questions on here and wondered if the kids were in class and in the middle of a test.

It's called conditioning. They do it to show you they can. The country is run just like a plantation boy and you best learn it early.
