Institutional Discrimination is discrimination that is sponsored by the state -- or some institution. For example -- if white students at a university do not treat blacks as equal -- that is discrimination. If the university encourages white students to treat black students badly, that is institutional discrimination. Other examples would be if a company refused to promote women to senior positions.

Cultural assimilation is when someone from another culture chooses to take on the new culture rather than maintain its own. For example, after WWII, many Japanese Americans stopped practicing many of their Japanese customs or celebrating Japanese holidays, because they wanted to be "More American than the white Americans."

Institutionalized sounds like it was carried out by society
Discrimination is hating someone for certain characteristics they have
Cultural Assimilation is blending more or one cultures by having a child of two or more cultures (America is a good example)

Well, institutionalized refers to being in an institution, as in prison or jail. Discrimination means treating people differently based on elements they cannot control such as race or sex. Cultural means a person's individual values which he learns from the people surrounding him as he grows up, it also refers to ethnic food, ethnic languages, traditions, etc. Finally assimilation means taking a person from one culture, putting them into another culture, and allowing them to adapt and change to fit into their new culture.
institutionalized discrimination- discrimination occuring within the confines of a jail or prison
cultural assimilation- the adaptation and change from one culture to another

Hope that helps.
